Tour Overview
Discover Tanzania's northern safari circuit from the tree-climbing lions of Lake Manyara to the legendary endless plains of the Serengeti. This 4-day adventure showcases Tanzania's extraordinary wildlife diversity and breathtaking landscapes.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Depart Arusha and drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a compact gem at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions — an unusual behavior where prides rest draped in the branches of mahogany and sausage trees. Game drive through the groundwater forest alive with troops of baboons and blue monkeys, then onto the open floodplains where buffalo herds, elephants, giraffe, and zebra graze. The lake itself attracts thousands of flamingos and an extraordinary diversity of waterbirds. Watch hippos wallowing in the shallows as fish eagles patrol overhead.
After breakfast, drive westward climbing through the Ngorongoro highlands with sweeping views of the Rift Valley behind you. Descend through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area gate into the Serengeti ecosystem. The transition is breathtaking — suddenly the landscape opens into the endless golden plains that give the Serengeti its name ('siringet' means 'endless plains' in Maasai). Afternoon game drive encountering massive wildebeest herds, zebra columns, and the predators that shadow them. Watch for lions resting in the shade of kopjes — the iconic granite boulder outcrops that dot the Serengeti plains.
Full day exploring the Serengeti's wildlife-rich Seronera Valley where the Seronera River provides year-round water attracting the highest concentrations of predators and prey. Morning drive tracking lions, cheetahs, and leopards. The open terrain makes the Serengeti the best park in Africa for watching predator hunts in real time. Picnic lunch under an acacia tree. Afternoon drive searching for elephants, buffalo herds, hippo pools, and the incredible diversity of antelope species from tiny dik-dik to massive eland. During migration months, witness hundreds of thousands of wildebeest moving across the plains in a spectacle unlike anything else on Earth.
Final early morning game drive for parting wildlife encounters as the Serengeti wakes up at dawn. After breakfast, drive back through the Ngorongoro highlands to Arusha arriving by evening. Optional stop at a Maasai craft market for souvenirs.
