    Tour Overview

A comprehensive ornithology expedition across Kenya's most diverse birding habitats. Led by professional ornithologist guides, this 10-day safari covers five major birding hotspots from semi-arid savannah to Rift Valley lakes, targeting 500+ species. Kenya ranks among the world's top five bird-watching destinations with over 1,100 recorded species. This tour combines exceptional birding with Big Five wildlife viewing for a complete nature experience.

    Day-by-Day Itinerary

Depart Nairobi and drive northeast to Meru National Park, made famous by the Born Free story of Elsa the lioness. The park's diverse habitats from riverine forest to open bushland support extraordinary birdlife. Afternoon birding drive along the Tana River looking for Pel's fishing owl, Peter's finfoot, palm-nut vulture, and the endemic Hinde's babbler. Meru's lush vegetation makes it one of Kenya's most underrated birding destinations.

Full day birding and game drive in Meru. Target species include African crowned eagle soaring above the canopy, martial eagle, bateleur, and a wide variety of kingfishers along the rivers. The park also offers excellent Big Five game viewing alongside the birding. Spot elephants, buffalo, and lions between bird sightings.

Drive to Samburu National Reserve in Kenya's semi-arid north. The arid-country habitat hosts specialist species found nowhere else in Kenya's southern parks. Afternoon birding targeting the spectacular vulturine guineafowl — one of Africa's most beautiful birds — along with golden-breasted starling, Somali ostrich, and golden pipit.

Full day exploring Samburu's diverse birding habitats along the Ewaso Ng'iro River. Morning walk targeting nightjars and roosting owls. Daytime drives for raptors — martial eagle, tawny eagle, Verreaux's eagle, and the striking palm-nut vulture. The doum palm forests host a unique community of birds including palm swifts and white-headed mousebird. Also spot the Samburu Special Five mammals.

Drive south to Lake Nakuru National Park, one of Africa's most famous birding sites. The alkaline lake attracts millions of lesser and greater flamingos — at peak times the lake appears entirely pink from shore to shore. Afternoon birding around the lake spotting Goliath heron, yellow-billed stork, African spoonbill, and the magnificent African fish eagle.

Full day birding around Lake Nakuru's different habitats — the lakeshore for waterbirds, the euphorbia forest for raptors and woodpeckers, and the acacia woodland for weavers and sunbirds. Target Verreaux's eagle owl in the fever trees, grey-crowned crane on the grasslands, and the park's resident pelican colony. Also excellent for photographing rhinos and Rothschild's giraffe.

Drive north to the freshwater Lake Baringo, one of Kenya's premier birding destinations with over 470 recorded species. Afternoon boat trip on the lake targeting Goliath heron, malachite kingfisher, African jacana, and the iconic African fish eagle. The volcanic cliffs surrounding the lake host Hemprich's hornbill, bristle-crowned starling, and Jackson's hornbill — all northern specialities.
