Tour Overview
A compact 3-day Rift Valley lakes safari from Kisumu. Spot flamingos and rhinos at Lake Nakuru, cruise among hippos on Lake Naivasha, and walk freely among wildlife on Crescent Island — three incredible experiences in one short trip.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Depart Kisumu and drive east through the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park. Arrive by lunchtime and check into your lodge. Afternoon game drive around the compact but wildlife-packed park. Watch thousands of flamingos creating a stunning pink carpet along the alkaline lake shore — one of Kenya's most photographed sights. Nakuru is a designated rhino sanctuary offering excellent chances to see both black and white rhinos. Spot Rothschild's giraffes, buffalo herds, waterbuck, and search for leopards in the fever trees. The park's birdlife is extraordinary with over 450 recorded species.
Morning game drive in Nakuru exploring the southern shores and euphorbia forest where rhinos are frequently spotted. After breakfast, drive south to the freshwater Lake Naivasha nestled in the Rift Valley. Afternoon boat ride across the lake gliding past pods of enormous hippos — watch as they surface, yawn revealing massive tusks, and submerge again. African fish eagles swoop from lakeside trees with their distinctive piercing cry. Then walk freely among zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, and gazelle on Crescent Island — a unique sanctuary with no predators where you can stroll alongside wildlife with no fences or vehicles between you.
Morning at leisure at Lake Naivasha — enjoy the peaceful lake views and birdlife from your lodge. Optional visit to Hell's Gate National Park for a cycling safari through dramatic volcanic scenery with giraffes and zebras (additional cost). After lunch, drive back to Kisumu or continue to Nairobi. Safari ends with wonderful memories of Kenya's Rift Valley lakes.
