From $2,300 per person • 6 Days / 5 Nights
Tour Overview
Summit Africa's highest peak (5,895m) via the popular Machame Route — known as the "Whiskey Route" for its challenging yet rewarding terrain. Traverse five distinct ecological zones from tropical rainforest to arctic summit. This 6-day climb offers stunning scenery, diverse landscapes, and the life-changing achievement of standing on the Roof of Africa at Uhuru Peak.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Drive from Moshi to Machame Gate. Register and begin trekking through lush tropical rainforest. The trail is well-maintained but steep in places. Listen for Colobus monkeys in the canopy above. Arrive at Machame Camp in the cloud forest.
Trek through the last of the forest and emerge onto the dramatic Shira Plateau. The landscape transforms from dense trees to moorland with giant heathers and lobelia. Incredible views open up as you gain altitude. Arrive at Shira Camp with panoramic views of Kibo Peak.
Critical acclimatization day. Trek up to Lava Tower at 4,630m (climb high, sleep low). This altitude exposure is essential for summit success. Descend to Barranco Camp through the surreal Senecio forest with giant groundsel plants.
Morning scramble up the famous Barranco Wall — the most exciting section of the climb. It looks intimidating but is manageable with guide assistance. Amazing views from the top. Continue traversing to Karanga Camp.
Short trek to Barafu Camp (base camp). Rest and prepare for the midnight summit push. Depart at midnight, trekking through the night under stars. The final push to Stella Point (5,756m) is the most challenging — steep scree and thin air test your determination. Watch the sunrise from near the summit — one of life's most incredible moments. Continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak — 5,895m — the Roof of Africa. Celebrate at the summit, take photos at the iconic sign, then descend to Barafu for a brief rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp.
Final descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificate — proof of your incredible achievement. Transfer back to Moshi/Arusha. Celebrate your conquest of Africa's highest peak!
